Jared has grown up immersed in the construction industry, learning the ropes from his father, a custom design/build general contractor in the Lake Tahoe area. His passion for the craft continued to grow as he worked for various contractors while attending Cal Poly, gaining hands-on experience in all aspects of general construction.

After earning his bachelor’s degree, Jared focused on design-build projects, where he found his true calling—creating spaces that seamlessly blend with their natural environments. This led to the founding of Native Landscape Creations, where Jared has built a reputation for high-quality craftsmanship and exceptional customer service.

With the success of Native Landscape Creations, Jared saw an opportunity to expand his expertise and help more clients. This led to the creation of Workhorse Custom Builders, where he now applies the same dedication to quality, attention to detail, and passion for design in every construction project. Together with his team, Jared continues to bring lasting value to every home and space they build.

Rhett Blanton is a lifelong San Luis Obispo County resident with nearly 25 years of experience building homes from the ground up. As Project Manager and Lead Carpenter at Workhorse Custom Builders, Rhett handles everything from client consultations and permitting to material procurement, subcontractor coordination, and on-site leadership—ensuring every project is delivered with precision, care, and craftsmanship.

Rhett began his career at age 20, learning from expert carpenters and building everything from high-end custom homes to cost-effective rental renovations. He holds a B.S. from Cal Poly, and spent nearly a decade as an environmental consultant, a background that now fuels his interest in sustainable, energy-efficient building practices.

Passionate about leading by example, Rhett is a dedicated father, community supporter, and lifelong learner. He finds joy in the details—whether it’s a clean job site, a well-executed layout, or a perfectly timed schedule. The Workhorse name reflects his roots in hard work, accountability, and respect—for the craft, the client, and every home he helps build.
